Our Mission

Mission:
To build a community in which youth reject tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, and anyone can find help

As a SAMHSA drug-free communities grantee, the Coalition has two goals:

Goal One: Reduce substance abuse among youth and over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse. (Substances include, but are not limited to, narcotics, depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, cannabis, inhalants, alcohol and tobacco, where their use is prohibited by Federal, State, or local law.)

Objectives related to this goal are:
Objective 1:  Promote ongoing efforts to increase community awareness of youth substance abuse and techniques for preventing underage use and abuse through a multimedia public information/education campaign.
Objective 2:  Equip parents with the skills to more effectively address the risk and protective factors within their families.
Objective 3:  Equip youth with the skills to deal more effectively with the pressures to use substances.

Goal Two:  Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private nonprofit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.

Objectives related to this goal are:
Objective 1: Promote and support the formation and efforts of substance abuse coalitions locally and regionally.
Objective 2:  Strengthen the operational capacity of the Coalition and staff.
Objective 3:  Increase community support through marketing, education, public events and collaborative activities.
Objective 4:  Build community mobilization to promote the ability and willingness of the community to address substance abuse prevention and enhance public awareness.
Objective 5:  Continue developing a mechanism for monitoring community rates of SA, evaluating impact, reporting achievements to community.
